A Par-Twitter in a Pear Tweet: Twitpay & Tweetmas
December 20th, 2008 by Taylor Thomas
There are a bunch of folks (aka third-party developers) who are getting innovative with Twitter, the (already inventive) micro social networking in 140 characters of less online service. For the record, my 140 characters would have been up by the “w” in networking. Here are two (twitter apps, not characters) that seem particularly interesting:
Tweetmas
The app is put out by Crowdstorm, and lets Twitter users tell the world (or more specifically, their friends) what they want for Christmas this year. NYTimes.com collected a few of the more “outlandish requests”, and we saw a few wishlists today that we thought were pretty interesting:
• A German driver’s license
• For my son to be more motivated
• My two front teeth, and my two back teeth not to hurt anymore
• A boyfriend… but I’ll settle for a Kindle or a Wii
• A job and jobs for my 700 former coworkers
To add your holiday wish to the list, post to Twitter with the command @tweetmas. If you need ideas, you might want to check out our Top 10 Holiday Gift Lists.
Twitpay
The new (and unfortunately named) service is in beta, and intends to make PayPal-esque online payments quick and easy through Twitter. The idea is that you simply direct your twitter to the recipient like so: “@anonymous twitpay $20 for lost bet. You were right, it was a guy” and your friend gets money on his Twitpay account. After accumulating at least $10, users can utilize the balance on a Twitpay charity or Amazon gift card.
