Worst Christmas Tech

November 20th, 2008 by Taylor Thomas

Nothing escapes the holidays. Almost every candy, cartoon, and .com gets a holiday makeover for the season. And while some are certainly executed better than others, I think we can all agree that most leave something to be desired. It seems that the release of random quirky USB gadgets and gizmos will never stop. And while some do provide a bit of amusement, most are merely an overpriced trinket. You know what we’re talking about: USB powered electric blankets, humidifiers, fragrance releasers, etc. In the spirit of the holidays, we expect to see several equally intriguing, though equally lame USB Christmas gadgets. We’ve collected a few already, and remind you that for better or worse, this is only the beginning.

Santa USB hub- 4 USB ports from 1 has proved useful. Color changing glowing Santa hub? $7 wasted.

Musical Phone Holding Reindeer- Even worse than your ___ ringtone is a flashing nose. Sorry Rudolph, this is why all of the other reindeer aren’t returning your texts. Added annoyance: Nose flash and Jingle Bells tune occur when you make and receive calls, even when the phone is in silent mode.

USB Drumming Snowman- The only thing decent about this blue light flashing, frosty holiday percussionist is the off button. Also available in equally annoying St. Nick version.

USB Snowman- More festive (pulsating) lights, just what you want. At least this snowman doesn’t play the drums.

Now that you’ve taken a look at some holiday items only suitable for the office white elephant party, maybe you should take a look at some gadgets worth gifting. Check out the Top 10 hotlists for everyone on your list, or use the gift selector quiz and find the perfect tech gifts specially selected by your interests. Or you could always check out some more holiday news and deals.
